Sleep Disorders
Difficulties with sleep are extremely common, with more than 30% of people suffering from insomnia at some point in their lives. Insomniacs can experience either difficulty falling and/or staying asleep with their daytime functioning often suffering from the effects of their poor sleep habits. Insomniacs are likely to wake feeling lethargic with subsequent impaired daytime functioning. For example, they may have trouble concentrating, memory problems, low tolerance levels, high irritability and even body aches and pains. It is not uncommon for insomniacs to become so preoccupied with their lack of sleep that their distress begins to impact on all areas of their lives.
Insomnia can be caused by a wide variety of underlying issues that include physical illnesses (such as chronic pain), substance abuse (such as prescription medications or alcohol) and psychological factors (such as Anxiety and Depression).
At Gates Psychology Cairns, our Clinical Psychologists have been trained to individually tailor specific sleep therapies so that we can help improve both the quantity and quality of your sleep.
